A downloadable game for Windows

A decade ago a civil war tore across the Kingdom of Gataela. Zack, orphaned during the conflict, embarks on a mission to improve the lives of his loved ones. Uncover schemes, investigate mysteries, and debate the citizens and nobles of Gataela! Will Zack succeed... Or will he discover hidden truths that threaten to rip apart the nation all over again?

  • Two Battle Systems: Timed turn-based, and Debate battles where you can negotiate, convince, and debate with NPCs
  • Speaking to NPCs is important: NPCs can give you the facts you need to back up your arguments in debates
  • Skits: Get to know more about the characters and the world
  • Skills level up with you: The more you use a skill, the better you'll get at it
  • Point allocation: Distribute points each time you level up and build your party however you want
  • Science is on your side: Use gunpowder and science to craft items which can help you get out of a pinch
  • Costumes: Changing your outfit will also change your overworld's appearance, and their appearance in skits

Encouragement and support

Hi, will the release be anytime soon?

Hi! Thanks a lot for your interest~ The game is still under active development, if you wish to follow along or look for updates we recommend either following on Twitter (https://twitter.com/gataelaproject) or reading up with our monthly blog posts on our website (http://www.gataela.com/).

Does this have any romance?

Hello! This is a bit of a difficult question to answer depending on what you expect by "romance" so hopefully this helps:

Can you romance characters? No.

Are there characters with romantic relationships? Yes, but it's not a focus. Things will be mentioned offhand every once and a while.

Do those romantic relationships show up in the demo? No.

Will the Itch app be able to auto-update this demo with the filename changing with each new version? Or how will that work? If it won’t work, could you remedy that?

Hello! The itch app should auto update on start-up. If you are not seeing that happen please let us know.

I see that there was an update 2 days ago according to this page's information box, but no dev log to accompany it. May I ask what changed?

The description was updated with new images.

You shouldn't need to install visual studio but the DLLs instead. Also try restarting your computer once you've installed them.

Please let me know if you need more help.

OH yeah i meant the redistributables, that was the post i followed first before making my own post and nothing changed, not even a restart

In that case there might be a few other redistributables missing:

1. 2012 C++ Redistributable
2. 2013 C++ Redistrubutable
3. DirectX

It is unlikely that #3 is missing, so please try 1 and 2 first. If these work we'll update the FAQ with more information since this seems like a common problem.

grabbed pretty much everything from the redistrubutable page and directx, restarted, and still the same error :(

The only other thing we can think to suggest is to try downloading the Steam version of the demo instead: https://store.steampowered.com/app/631860/Gataela/

Hey, I just started playing. I guess fullscreen is new? It worked fine for the opening, but as soon as I completed the intro (returning the bread to Rob and it turns afternoon) the UI elements are full screen but the actual game takes only a small portion. I've attached a screenshot.

Just wanted to let you know so you can fix it before release.

Edit: hmm, weird. When it cycled to the next morning, everything was properly fullscreen again! And even when it was glitching like in the pic, menus and shops were still full screen.

Thanks for letting us know! Yes, fullscreen is new and only partially implemented, as we're doing it in two stages. We weren't aware of this though, thank you. We've added it to the list of bugs here: https://airtable.com/shrcRSF3P0o8sPNHX/tblj1jsnurxX1D4d1

when is the full game coming out?

Hi! The game is still in development, but we're hoping to be finished sometime in 2021 or 2022!

Cool!

I love this game so much! It has been one of the few games which has really made such an impression and has earned a long-term place in my games folder.

(+1)

Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

This was so fun, the 4 hours flew right by!  Can't wait till the release!

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Can't launch the app :( Keeps getting this error:

Oh! You're missing external DLLs. What system are you running on?

Not OP but what DLLs would I need? I'm VERY interested in playing this :)

You should just need the standard Windows C++ Redistributables (2015, 2017, 2019) which you can download from Microsoft here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-d...

On new computers, or computers where you haven't needed this yet, this may not be installed.

Omg yesss running fine now thank you!!

Great to hear! Enjoy!

Thank you :)

For those of us who saw this in a bundle we bought, will we still get to play the full version?

I am not sure at the moment. It is something that will be looked at more after final release.

So when i try to play the demo it shows up as a tiny box on my screen with no option to turn it to fullscreen. Any work arounds for this? Any way to force fullscreen? Would love to actually try out this game, am really interested in it, but it's currently so small i can't even read the text.

Sorry, fullscreen is not currently supported. We're working on it, but it messes up quite a few things;;;

I'm not sure what your screen resolution is, but the window of the game should be 1068x600. My desktop screen resolution is 1920x1080, so it takes up most of my screen. I know it's not ideal, but if you lower the resolution of your screen it should "get bigger". I hope this helps.

I will try looking into a temporary solution for now to avoid ^ if it's that distasteful.

Hey, thanks for letting me know, I understand if it breaks stuff, that must suck. I'll try the suggestion you posted. Thanks for the help!

I just wanted to let you know we have a full screen mode now in the demo!

(+1)

Hell yeah! Can't wait to try it out!

When the full game comes out, will it not be free anymore?

The full game will not be free, but we may keep the demo available for free. No decisions have been made yet. :)

The art is so pretty! I am excited to see  where the story goes!

Thank you!

I enjoy the game! But it glitches out and force closes randomly.

Thanks for playing! We're planning on doing an update soon with a lot of fixes.

Awesome!!

Really neat game!

I really enjoyed playing this game, and I'm really excited to see what comes next! There are a couple hitches in the gameplay, but I really like the direction it's going!

Here's a video of my gameplay:

(Video will be up February 27, 4:00 PM EST)

And you should learn how this game solves collisions around edges.

I'm not too sure what you mean (and your link doesn't work?), but I do know that I need to fix a bug with the collisions, there's just a significant hiccup in getting it done. (Also thank you for the Z sorting bug)

Oh, excuse me and I've updated my comment.

Thanks a lot. I'll look into putting that in.

its the same with me it wont work.

oof

Hi Ree. We'll be releasing a new demo on Friday (Nov 1 2019) so please try out that version when you have time.
